Classic Blue and Pumpkins

By Chuck Repnow - | Oct 10, 2020

Have you noticed the bright shade of blue that is painting majesty above the golden harvest in early evening? It is easiest to distinguish right before twilight bids night–her evening shade of bold midnight blue. This bright shade of blue at some moment is 19-4052 Classic Blue which is Pantone’s color of the year for 2020. Lucky us! This visual ranks right up there with seeing the crocuses in their spring purple gowns.

Each year I take interest in “Pantone’s Color of the Year” because it is an extra dose of luxury. What fun to think of the possibilities of the eye-catching designs this “in color” will produce. For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development. The color entices purchasing decisions in several industries, such as fashion, auto, home decor, and certainly in everyday items such as cell phone cases, water bottles and eyeglasses.

My favorite part of the hearing about the color of the year is the color psychology. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of Pantone Color Institute, had this to say about Classic Blue –“a boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky. Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.” Wow! To think all of this can come from the color Classic Blue!

Now hang on because there is more. Eiseman goes on to say, “we are living in a time that requires trust and faith,” and she continues on by saying “It is this constancy and confidence that is expressed by Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue that we can always rely on” Ironically this Pantone color was announced prior to Covid-19.

How can one not be fascinated with color psychology? When we are having to dealing with the coronavirus daily, remember to look up and the Classic Blue of the evening sky will wrap you in encouragement! Have I gotten you interested in why you should spot a bit of Classic Blue each day in your life? It doesn’t take a genius to use it, and it is free!

Pumpkin Dessert

I received this recipe for Pumpkin Dessert that certainly can pair with Classic Blue from Jeannie Kukla from Rugby several years ago. It is a fall favorite in our home. The use of cloves and ginger in this recipe adds great flavor. We have made it without the nuts. We give way to serving it with real whipped cream. That way none of gathered guests at the table go away blue.

3 large eggs

1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree

1 (12 fluid once) can evaporated milk

¢ cup white sugar

¢ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon

¢ teaspoon cloves

1 package yellow cake mix

§ cup butter, melted

1 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan

In a large bowl combine eggs, pumpkin, milk, sugars and spice. Mix well and pour into prepared baking pan. Sprinkle dry cake mix over the top of this mixture, then drizzle with melted butter, Top with walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve with a dollop of real whipped cream that has been lightly dusted with a dash of nutmeg if desired. It can also be served plain or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
