Spark a love for books with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
Anne Leier, Rugby
Something we hear often at our house from the kids… “Can we check the mail?” or “Will you read to me?” As adults mail often consists of bills or things we don’t need but for young kids, mail is fun when it comes for them. Our kids’ love of mail and reading possibly started as a little kid when they would receive a new book each month, with their name on it, from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. As soon as we brought it in the house we had to read and reread their new book. Each book we received was age appropriate as they grew older and a staple favorite on their bookshelf. All of our kids have a love for books and reading which is so fun to see as a parent.
As an educator myself, love of being read to at a young age has tremendous value as they learn to read themselves and gives a child an extended amount of vocabulary. In March, we celebrated the 10th anniversary for Rugby’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which has sent over 13,400 educational and kid loving books since it began to local children.
I am so appreciative this program was brought to Rugby and we were able to fill our kids bookshelves with beautiful books from infant until kindergarten age.
