Ronald Preuss, 74, died
of cancer on April 15,
2022. A memorial service
may be held in Fargo, ND
at a later date.
Ronald Herman Preuss
was born Sept. 22, 1947 to
William R. and Katherine
Preuss. He was reared on
the family farm south of
Esmond, ND, attending
schools in Rich Valley
Township and various
towns in the area follow-
ing where his mother
taught school. He graduat-
ed from Rugby High
School in 1965. He
worked for the railroad for
a short time and then
joined the US Marine
Corps on Jan. 3, 1967. He
served for four years, with
one year in Vietnam
where he and other ma-
rines were exposed to
Agent Orange. He re-
ceived numerous awards
from the Marine Corps,
including the Navy Com-
mendation Medal, Viet-
nam Service and Cam-
paign Medals, Good Con-
duct Medal and others.
After his honorable
discharge on Nov. 21,
1970, he returned to
North Dakota and again
went to work for the rail-
road until his retirement
in 2010. He married Char-
lene in Fargo on Sept. 2,
1972. He was a life
member with the Benson
County VFW Post 4251 of
Esmond.
Survivors include his
wife; three children, De-
anna Carter of St. Augus-
tine, Fla., Debbie (Scott)
Anderson of Fargo and
Casey (Kristen) Preuss of
Fort Worth, Texas; six
grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and
four siblings, William S.
(Betty) of Turlock, Calif.,
Gerald (Sharon) of Grand
Forks, ND, Loren (Gloria
of Esmond and Constance
(James) Dunkelberger of
Tacoma, Wash.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; two
siblings, Carol (Merwin)
Thompson and Kermit
Walter; and a great-
grandson, Phoenix.
