Ramona Black

Ramona Magdalena

Black, the daughter of

Joseph and Magdalena

(Hilzendager) Heilman

was born on August 9,

1936 in Rugby, North

Dakota. She died at the

age of 85 years on Thurs-

day, March 10, 2022 at the

Benedictine Living Com-

munity Center in Garris-

on, North Dakota.

Ramona was raised in

the farm home of her

parents in rural Rugby.

She was baptized and

confirmed in the Little

Flower Catholic Church

in Rugby. She attended a

rural school near her

home and completed her

education, graduating

from Rugby High School,

the class of 1954. While

attending a dance in Rug-

by, Ramona met Pius

Black from Karlsruhe. On

April 17, 1956, she was

united in marriage to Pius

at the Little Flower

Catholic Church in Rug-

by. The couple made their

home on Pius’s family

farm near Karlsruhe and

were blessed with four

children. They had a

dairy farm until 1981,

raised small grains and

after selling their dairy

cattle, they raised pure-

bred Simmentals. Ramona

helped on the ranch, but

was known for her great

cooking and baking. Ac-

cording to many, she was

the best cook and baker in

the world and was always

happy to feed anyone at

any time. She enjoyed

feeding their hired men,

entertaining her friends,

playing cards and was al-

ways jolly and happy.

Ramona was musically in-

clined and loved to play

the accordion and dance,

especially the polka and

waltz.

Ramona is survived by

her loving husband, Pius

of Karlsruhe; children,

Gregory (Beth) of

Karlsruhe, Loren (Lisa) of

Bismarck, Garrett (Noel)

of Edina, Minnesota and

Jeanette Black of Baldwin,

Wisconsin; grandchildren,

Bre (Clark) Leier, Karly

and Katie Black and

Amaline, Evelyn and

Vivian Black; sister-

in-law, Helen (David)

Hecker of Bainbridge Is-

land, Washington; nieces,

nephews; other relatives

and friends. She was pre-

ceded in death by her sis-

ter, Beatrice (Omar)

Hamnes; her parents;

Pius’s parents, Wendelin

and Anna Black Jr.; Pius’s

siblings, Regina

(Waldemar) Zaback, Anna

Marie (Frank) Werner,

Leocadia (Ray) Boechler,

Leo (Francine) Black,

Lawrence (Delores) Black

and Ralph (Ann) Black

Christian burial will be

held at 10:00 a.m. Satur-

day, June 25th at Sts.

Peter and Paul Catholic

Church in Karlsruhe with

burial to follow in the

church cemetery.

Visitation will be from

5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a

rosary and vigil prayer

service beginning at 7:00

p.m. on Friday, June 24th

at the Anderson Funeral

Home in Rugby.
