Obert Edwin Jacobson, Jr.

Obert Edwin Jacobson,
Jr. the son of Obert E. and
Irene (Anderson) Jacob-
son, Sr. was born June 13,
1940 in Drake, North
Dakota. He died at the
age of 80 years on Tues-
day, February 23, 2021 at
the Souris Valley Care
Center in Velva, North
Dakota following a brief
illness.
Obert was raised in the
rural Butte, North Dakota
home of his parents and
attended a one-room
country school and went
on to graduate from Butte
High School. He com-
pleted his education at
the North Dakota School
of Science in Wahpeton,
North Dakota. While
there he met his future
wife to be, Nancy Titus.
Obert and Nancy where
united in marriage on July
8, 1963 in Oakes, North
Dakota. Returning to
Butte, Obert worked at the
Butte Farmers Union Oil
from 1962-1969 and later
moved to Balta, to manage
the Farmers Union Oil
station there. He and
Nancy moved the family
to Towner, North Dakota
in 1977, where he worked
at the Towner Farmers
Union Oil until they built
the new station, he then
transferred to the Rugby
Farmers Union Oil. He
retired in 2002.
While Obert was work-
ing with Farmers Union
Oil, Nancy was employed
by Klein’s Auto. In 1987,
she bought the parts por-
tion of the business, and
along with Richard
Berndt, began operation of
her own business,
“Towner Parts and
Repair”, which she
operated until ill health
forced her to retire. Nan-
cy died June 5, 1999.
Obert assisted in the busi-
ness over the years and
went full-time after his re-
tirement. In December of
2014, he officially retired
for the last time, selling
the business to Richard
Berndt. After years of
courtship, Obert was unit-
ed in marriage to Merrie
Schmidt on September 3,
2016 at Faith Lutheran
Church in Towner, where
they also reside.
Obert is survived by his
wife, Merrie; his children,
Rita (Ernie) Lystad of
Granville, Edwin of
Towner and Scott (Cam-
eron) of Grand Forks; 3
Grandsons, 3 Grand-
daughters; 1
great-grandson; 1
great-granddaughter; his
step-children, Julie (Meni-
no) Fernandes of Farming-
ton, MN, Katelyn Carabal-
lo (Steven Kerchner) of
Cincinnati, OH, Samuel
(Chenise) Leighton of
Towner and Bobbi Leigh-
ton of Bismarck; 6
step-grandchildren;
sisters-in-law, Joan
Schiffner of Lake Park,
MN & Sandra (Hilton)
Barnes of Fargo; several
nieces, nephews, other re-
latives and a host of
friends; and his special fe-
line friend, Speedy. He
was preceded in death by
his first wife, Nancy; a
brother-in-law, Jim
Schiffner; and his parents.
A Private Family
Memorial Service was
held on Monday, March
1st at Faith Lutheran
Church in Towner with
Pastor Daryl Rothchild
presiding. A public
graveside service will be
held in the summer at St.
Cecilia’s Cemetery, Town-
er all to be announced
then. His service was
videoed and available on
