George Rosel

George Rosel passed
away peacefully at the
Heart of America Hospital
in Rugby, North Dakota
on Sunday, February 14,
2021. He was born Oc-
tober 25, 1937 in Love-
land, Colorado and then
moved to Decorah, Iowa
when he was 4 years old.
He graduated from
Decorah High School in
1956. He entered the
United States Marine
Corps in September of
1956 and was honorably
discharged in 1958. He
married Karen Ann Oak-
land of Pasadena, Califor-
nia in 1958. After his
discharge from the Marine
Corps, he entered the Un-
ited States Postal Service
where he served until his
retirement in 1992. After
his retirement from the
Postal Service, he and his
wife Karen lived in Cali-
fornia, Nevada, and
Iowa. After Karen’s
passing in 2008, he con-
tinued to live in Iowa, but
then moved to Colorado
in 2011 and he ultimately
moved to Willow City,
North Dakota in 2015.
Among his many activi-
ties, George was an Eagle
Scout and a Boy Scout
Leader. He was very ac-
tive in First Lutheran
Church of Decorah,
Iowa. He loved working
at the Church Food Pan-
try. He was an avid trav-
eler, visiting many dif-
ferent countries. During
his time in Willow City,
North Dakota, he enjoyed
volunteering at the local
cafe and he was a regular
at the local tavern where
he enjoyed an afternoon
beverage and visiting with
everyone.
He is survived by his
children, Tammy Slattery
and her husband, Patrick
of Loveland, Colorado,
James Rosel and his wife,
Holly (Edwards) of Wil-
low City and Cynthia
Rosel of Decorah, Iowa; a
brother Gene Rosel and
his wife, Marsha (Knight)
of Decorah, Iowa
He was preceded in
death by his wife Karen in
2008, his mother in 1982
and his father in 2002.
George requested no
service and has been
cremated. His cremated
remains will join his wife
Karen’s remains in Mable,
Minnesota at a later time.
