Ludvina “Ludy” Arealia
Marto, Rugby, died at her
home in Rugby on Oc-
tober 25, 2020, after fight-
ing cancer for 23 years.
Ludy was born on June 7,
1942 in Towner to Louis
and his wife Mary Ann
Wolfe Rieder. She was
raised on a farm near
Drake where she attended
grade school. She con-
tinued her education at
Notre Dame Academy in
Willow City for 2 years
and graduated from Drake
High School in 1960.
Ludy married Gary Willis
Marto in Minot on April
30, 1966. While living in
Minot she worked at Trin-
ity Hospital in the dietary
department for 13 years
and 7 years at North Hill
Foods. The joy of her
employment was keeping
school children safe by
working as a crossing
guard for the Minot Police
Department for 14 years.
During this time she knit-
ted 125 stocking caps and
gave them to school chil-
dren at the crossings. She
enjoyed baby-sitting,
without accepting pay-
ment, for many years.
Ludy will be remembered
for her love of her many
cats in their home
through the years. Dur-
ing this time, she and
Gary enjoyed spending
many a week-end at their
cabin on Lake Sacajawea .
She was a member of
Little Flower Church in
Minot and Rugby during
her life. They had
moved to Rugby in 2012.
Mrs. Marto is survived
by her husband, Gary and
her siblings, Leo Rieder –
Fargo; David (Annette)
Rieder – Grand Forks,
Martin (Yvonne) Rieder –
Towner; Bernie Davis –
Simi Valley, California,
and Louise Rieder and
Lisa Williams – Temecu-
la, California. She also
leaves many nieces and
nephews. She was pre-
ceded by her parents,
brother Jim Rieder,
brother-in-law Stan Davis
and an infant sister.
Memorial services will
be held at the Niewoehner
Funeral Home in Rugby
on Saturday, October 31,
2020 at 11:00 A.M. Rev.
Anthony Cruz will offici-
ate. Burial will follow at
Little Flower Catholic
Cemetery in Rugby.
Memorials are wel-
comed to the Heart of
America Hospice.
Friends could call after
5:30 P.M. on Friday and a
prayer service will be held
at the funeral at 7 P.M.
Even though Covid-19
restrictions have been
somewhat relaxed, guests
are urged to observe social
distancing and to wear fa-
cial coverings if possible.
