Gun club members show out at State Trap Shoot

Local shooters with the Rugby Gun Club entered the arena at the Capital City Gun Club in Bismarck last week for the 2024 North Dakota State Trap Shoot, with several of the marksmen bringing home some gold.

The RGC members competed in a variety of divisions, where they were scored on the number of clay pigeons shot down over the course of the event held from July 18- 21. The State Trap Shoot is the culmination of the summer trapshooting league which is open to all ages.

Six local shooters competed in the Youth Team Event, with Seth Kuhnhenn claiming the championship by shoot off with a score of 99/100. The other youth competitors notched respectable scores: Luke Jorde (95/100), Grant Senger (78/100), Melissa Kuhnhenn (71/100) and Abby Jorde (70/100).

Brandon Oksendahl was crowned champion of the Wyatt Hanson Handicap Event after scoring 96/100 and winning by shoot off. Dwight Gunter took first place in the Sub-Veteran Division scoring 90/100.

Carson Mattern scored highly in the Preliminary Singles and Handicap events, winning Class A champion in the former and was runner-up champion in the latter. Scott Kraft took first place in the Sub-Veteran Division in the Preliminary Handicap event.

In the Singles Championship, Andrew Oksendahl was AA champion after winning a shoot off, scoring 197 out of 200. Norm Howard took third place after scoring 196 out of 200 after winning a shoot off of his own. Kordell Kraft was the runner-up in the Junior Gold Division. Scott Kraft netted another title as B Division Champion, and Seth Kuhnhenn was Junior runner-up.

Carson Mattern captured the C Division in the Doubles Championship after winning a shoot off.

Brandon and Andrew Oksendahl placed at the top of the board of the Handicap Championship, with Brandon as the runner-up champion after a shoot off, and Andrew placing second Mid.
