Panthers prepare for girls’ golf qualifiers
Rugby Panthers girls’ golfers prepared for individual qualifiers with five meets packed into eight days between Thursday, Aug. 10 and Friday, Aug. 18.
One of the golf rounds was on Rugby’s home course.
Although the local meet on Monday, Aug. 14 was for junior varsity players, Rugby Coach Angie Zietz said it gave the small crew of Panthers golfers a chance to get some practice, even with greens left wet by rain that morning.
Avery Santjer, Brooke Kleespie, Tallie Dosch and Ashlyn Dibble played as a team in the Monday, Aug. 14 meet.
“We took first place,” Zietz said. “Ashlyn took first with 49 for an individual score. Brooke Kleespie tied for third, shooting a 57, Tallie took sixth, shooting a 63. Avery took 13th, shooting a 71.”
The team’s first meet took place in Velva Thursday, Aug. 10. In that meet, Rugby took fourth place overall, shooting 413 as a team score. Marly Santjer placed third in that meet, shooting an 88. Dibble shot 97 for sixth place. Dosch placed 25th with 112 and Kleespie tied for 28th place with a score of 116.
“In Bottineau, we only had three golfers,” said Zietz. “Individually, Ashlyn took eighth. She shot 101. Tallie tied for 21st. She shot a 129 and Avery Santjer took 30th and shot a 145. Every course is different. So, reading the greens, putting on the greens is important. Velva was a dryer course than we are here. So, some fairways were very hard hitting off of them. So, just getting used to the different courses and everything can be hard.”
The Panthersfinish their busy week with meets in Dunseith Thursday, Aug. 17 and Underwood Friday, Aug. 18.
“We go to Garrison Monday for an individual qualifier,” she said. “Lots of golf to be had in the next week.”
