Business owners and members of the Rugby Chamber of Commerce stopped at Merchants Bank Park in downtown Rugby July 22 for the Chamber Business Appreciation Picnic.

Chamber board members served up grilled burgers and hot dogs, pasta salad with veggies, chips and drinks for free.

“It’s something the Chamber has always done,” said Executive Director Laurie Odden, who circulated through the crowd wearing an orthopedic boot for a broken foot that didn’t slow her down at all.

“It’s just to thank our Chamber members and thank our businesses for being a member,” Odden said.

Odden said the picnic had begun as an annual event. “Then, we went to having it every other year,” she said. “Last year would’ve been our year to do it, then COVID hit. So, we’re just going to evaluate it and see how it went this year.”

“I think we had 125 RSVPs for the event,” Odden said. “A lot came right away and left and some have just come now. We planned for 200.”

“It’s our way to thank our Chamber members for everything they do all year and who doesn’t love a picnic and free food?” Odden added with a smile.

Odden said she was already busy planning for future events. “Our next big event will be a wine walk,” she said, adding Chamber members would decide the date and time at a future meeting.
