An officer with the North Dakota Department of Game and Fish found the body of a 21-year-old female in Rugby Monday, March 1, according to a statement by the Rugby Police Department.

In the statement, Rugby Police Chief John Rose said the woman had been “a subject in an active missing person investigation.”

Rose said the woman had been reported missing late in the evening of Feb. 28, “having been missing since the early morning hours of that date from a residence in Rugby.”

“At this time, the death is still under investigation pending an autopsy,” Rose said, adding the body had been found outside “and is being treated as an exposure death at this time.”

Rose said the name of the victim was being withheld by the police department pending family notification.

“The Rugby Police Department is being assisted by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation,” Rose added.
