Public works committee okays dump truck purchase
The City of Rugby Public Works Committee voted Nov. 12 to purchase two dump trucks for use in various maintenance projects around the city.
In a special committee meeting held via conferencing software, members voted to purchase the trucks from South Dakota firm Sioux Falls Truck and Trailer, Inc. The combined cost for both trucks was $131,000, according to Rugby City Auditor Jennifer Stewart.
The trucks will replace two the city now owns that employees say should be replaced due to wear and tear and safety issues.
The newly purchased trucks, both pre-owned, are a 2012 Freightliner and a 2013 Freightliner. The trucks will be fitted with new dump boxes and hoists for hauling snow, asphalt and other materials for city maintenance work. Stewart said the trucks should be ready for shipment to Rugby in about one month.
The public works committee will bring their vote to purchase the truck before the Rugby City Council at their next regular meeting, to be held Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
