Janey Ruth (Rosen-
crans) Payne, the
daughter of Joe and Mar-
tha (Carpenter) Rosen-
crans was born on January
20, 1952 in Rugby, North
Dakota. She died at the
age of 69 years on Sun-
day, February 28, 2021
surrounded by a wonder-
ful family at the Trinity
Medical Center in Minot,
North Dakota following a
courageous battle with
cancer.
Janey grew up in Town-
er, North Dakota and gra-
duated High School there,
the class of 1970. She
was united in marriage to
Richard “Rick” Payne on
September 5, 1970 in
Lewiston, Idaho. The
couple made their home
in Towner following their
marriage. A loving and
devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, homemaker
and friend to many, Janey
also worked outside the
home at the Towner
Tastee Freeze and later at
the Heart of American
Medical Center for 27
years, most of the time
serving in the capacity of
Admissions Supervisor.
She is survived by her
husband, Rich of Towner;
two sons, Justin Owen of
Deering and Levi (Tara) of
Harrisburg, South Dakota;
one granddaughter, Sierra
Doerr; three grandsons,
Jaden, Henry and Isaac
Payne; her siblings, Peggy
(Don) Uglen or Lewiston,
Idaho, Hazel (Bill) Tun-
stall of San Diego, Califor-
nia, JoAnn (Bob) Vinje
and Wayne “Derby”
(Glenda) Rosencrans, all
of Everett, Washington,
Nola Rosencrans of Bur-
lington and Dave (Julie)
Rosencrans of Palm
Desert, California; nieces,
nephews, other relatives
and a host of friends. She
was preceded in death by
her parents.
Memorial services were
held at 1:30 p.m. Friday,
March 5th at the Zion
Lutheran Church in
Towner with spring buri-
al in the Union Cemetery,
Towner. Mr. Wally Fret-
land, Officiant. Services
