Panthers hit triple digits in rout over Glenburn

The Rugby Panthers boys’ basketball team took down Glenburn High School in their first triple-digit win of the season 110-27 in their home-opener on Monday night, Jan. 5, and improved to a winning record on the season.

The Panthers started off the first quarter strong, up to a 20-2 lead before the first four minutes of the game had passed. The first quarter ended with the Panthers up 36-7 and they were not slowing down. The Panthers’ offense took off early again in the second quarter, making quick work of Glenburn’s defence, ending the first half of the game with a lead of 65-16. The second half of the game was slower for Rugby, but only in as much as they were unable to double up their score against Glenburn. Rugby’s defence improved slightly in the last two quarters, only allowing Glenburn to score 11 points. The Panthers were able to score an additional 45 points in the second half of the game, giving them their winning total score of 110-27. Junior center Brody Berndt was the highest scorer for the Panthers with 19 total points. The Panthers improved their record on the season to 3-2 for their first winning record of the new year. The Panthers are scheduled to play Thompson High School on the road on Thursday, Jan. 15.
