Rugby dominates cross country meet

The Rugby High School boys’ cross country team and girls’ cross country team performed well in the Hatton/Northwood/Larimore “Thunder” Invitational on Tuesday, September 9 at the Larimore Golf Course.
The girls’ cross country team swept the competition in Larimore, taking home first place overall with a score of 28. The second place team came out of Pembina County North with a total score of 74. Rugby junior Hannah Senechal took home first place in the girls’ 5,000 meter race with a time of 20 minutes 22 seconds. The Rugby girls’ team had two other runners take a top five spot, junior Evyn Jacobson took home third place with a time of 21 minutes one second and freshman Allie Monroe took home fourth place with a time of 21 minutes 22 seconds.
The Rugby High boys’ cross country team took home second place overall with a total score of 61 points. Valley City took home first with a total score of 47. Rugby junior Brayden Green was the individual winner in the boys’ 5,000 meter race in the “Thunder” Invitational with a time of 17 minutes 30 seconds. Only one other boys’ Rugby runner cracked the top ten. Freshman Zeke Puente took home ninth place individually with a time of 19 minutes 49 seconds.
