Bottineau-Rugby boys hockey team notch pair of wins over Bismarck

RUGBY — The Bottineau-Rugby Braves traveled to Mayville-Portland on Feb. 3 and hosted Bismarck High Feb. 5 and came away with wins of 8-6 and 7-2 respectively.

Bottineau-Rugby got on the scoring trend early in the first period with the hosting May-Port Ice Dawgs. Junior Khaliel Abdurrahman found the net at the 3:04 mark. Senior Brooks Siemens fed the puck to Abdurrahman who recorded four goals for the night. Besides the assist, Siemens also hit the net for two goals in the contest. Junior Tucker Fedje also tallied two scores as well as two assists. Sophomore Rowan Cheshire had 28 saves over the three periods for the Braves in the win over Maryville-Portland..

Walker McGillis for the Ice Dawgs lit the scoreboard with four goals and an assist in the loss at home. Jack Mattson held the net with 33 saves for the game.

Bottineau-Rugby then hosted the Demons from Bismarck High and an early goal by junior Dylan Schneider put the visiting team up 1-0 at the 3:04 mark. Sophomore Landon Siemens tied the game for the Braves nearly ten minutes later with his older brother feeding him the puck.

For the rest of the first and the entire second period it was Braves and the senior B. Siemens show. The elder of the two boys ended the game with three goals and three assists. Senior goalie Easton Freeman had 19 saves for the night. Between both games, thirteen players tallied points for the Braves in the wins.

Freshman Easton Richardson scored the other goal for the Demons while junior Ty Shea held the score to 7-2 with 41 saves for the visiting team.

The Braves closed out their regular season against Bismarck Century on Thursday, Feb. 8.
