The Bottineau-Rugby boys’ hockey team opened its season with a 5-4 win over Devils Lake on Nov. 21, before dropping a pair of games to start December.

Abdurrahman scored two goals in the second period, as Bottineau-Rugby jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two. Devils Lake outscored Bottineau-Rugby 3-2 in the third period, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Braves’ lead.

Devils Lake scores included Braxton Boline, with two goals, Austin Thompson and Caleb Schwab, who finished with one goal and two assists.

The Braves started December with a one-goal loss to Jamestown on Dec. 1, despite a hat trick from Fedje. Bottineau-Rugby opened up a 2-0 lead after one period, but Jamestown tied it up at 2-2 behind goals from Bennett Goehner and Max Whitman. Fedje clinched his hat trick on the final goal for both teams in the second period, before Jamestown outscored Bottineau-Rugby 2-0 in the third on its way to a 4-3 win.

Assisting Fedje on his three goals were Getzlaff, Siemens (2) and Abdurrahman (2). The game was the home opener for the Braves.

It was a short rest for Bottineau- Rugby as they welcomed the Dickinson Midgets to the Bottineau Community Area on Dec. 2, but the Midgets were anything but cordial guests, knocking off the Braves, 5-2.

For the second straight game, Bottineau-Rugby got all of its goals from one player. This time it was Siemens scoring both goals, one in the first period and one in the second. Siemens first goal was assisted by Getzlaff and Abdurrahman, and his second goal was assisted by Brody Nordmarck.

The Midgets got two goals from Kaedan Krig, who also added an assist. Other goal scorers for Dickinson were Kacen Groll, Kasey Stengel and Izaya Hodgson.

The Braves will return to the ice on Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bottineau Community Arena, before hitting the road to Grafton-Park River on Dec. 16 at 1 p.m.
