The Carrington Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak against Rugby, Friday, Aug. 25, at Rugby High School’s Johnsen Field. Carrington defeated Rugby 48-14.

After the Cardinals’ Logan Weininger returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, a second Carrington touchdown put the Cardinals ahead 13-0 before Rugby found an answer.

A 15-yard touchdown pass from Rugby quarterback Tucker Volk to wide receiver Taytum Risovi cut the Cardinals’ lead to 13-6 after a failed Rugby two-point conversion attempt.

Carrington added two more touchdowns before the Panthers found the scoreboard again.

Rugby cut the Carrington lead to 27-14, after Volk found Risovi in the end zone again for a 50-yard score. Dane Heidbreder added the two-point conversion for the Panthers.

The Cardinals went on to score 21 unanswered points in the win.

Weininger led the Cardinals with 190 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns.

Risvoi led all receivers with 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Rugby.

“We thought we could find a few things in our passing game that we liked and earlier in the game, we did,” said Panthers Coach Travis Risovi. “Taytum and Tucker connected on two touchdowns, and we had some stuff open on our passing game.”
