Rugby High School senior Riley Odden finished his career in class B wrestling with a fourth-place rank in the North Dakota State Class B Individual Tournament, held in Fargo Feb. 17-19.

The 152-pound Odden wrestled his way to the final round in his weight class by winning first over Beulah-Hazen’s Cade Harm by a 9-2 decision before a defeat in the quarterfinals by technical foul to Lisbon’s Blaze Reinke. Odden would next win consolation round 2 by fall over Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm’s Carl Tjermlund in one minute, 35 seconds.

Odden moved through the next two consolation rounds, defeating Larimore’s Colter Thorsell by fall in 2:07, then defeating Bishop Ryan’s Wesley Harvey by fall in 2:10.

In the third-place match, Odden lost by a 7-4 decision to South Border’s Jace Nitschke.

Odden said he was “very happy” to end his time as a high school wrestler with a fourth-place ranking among class B wrestlers in the state.

“I felt really excited going down to the state tournament,” Odden said.

Odden’s family had gone along with him to the contest at the Fargodome. His mom, Maribel, took plenty of pictures.

Odden said now that his last season as a Rugby High wrestler has finished, he has no plans to participate in other sports.

“I don’t plan on wrestling in college,” he added.

Aiden Jensen, a co-op student from Leeds High School, also wrestled for the Rugby Panthers at the state tournament. Jensen did not place in the tournament.
