Panther cross country reaches midseason at number one
With competing cross country teams far behind the Rugby Panthers varsity girls, Rugby runners are focusing on their personal bests and competing from within, according to Coach Bill Jansen.
The Panthers, who have led North Dakota Class B polls since the season began, left other teams in the dust again Thursday, Sept. 10, this time at the Grafton Invitational at Grafton’s Fair Oaks Golf Course.
“We are at the midpoint of our season and the teams are running well and looking to improve,” Jansen said via email. “The depth on the girls’ team is really starting to show. The team is getting better every day because of the amount of competition there is between teammates.”
The competition between teammates showed in finish times, when Brooklyn Bartsch, Amelia Shepard and Quinn Neppl saw fourth, sixth and eighth place times separated by tenths of seconds, and runners Ashlynn Dibble, Kinsey Arnston, Jaclyn Ducscher and Jaelyn Lunde finished within hundredths of seconds of each other.
The Panther boys’ varsity team placed sixth among the 12 competing teams in the event. Junior varsity girls placed second in the meet, while JV boys placed seventh.
The Panthers next traveled to Cavalier County for the Jason Shepard Invitational meet Sept. 17 before heading west to Beulah Sept. 22.
Results for the Jason Shepard Invitational will appear in next week’s Tribune.
