After netting their first loss of the season days earlier, the Rugby Panther girls basketball team had a chance to rebound in a district matchup against the visiting Nedrose Cardinals.

The Panthers didn’t just rebound, but won 67-19 over Nedrose on Monday.

The Panthers worked up a 5-2 lead early, and would later outscore the Cardinals 17-1 with a buzzer-beating jumper from Mykell Heidlebaugh.

In the second quarter, the Panthers added 15 more points to their lead while holding the Cardinals to just three for a 37-6 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Panthers add 25 more points while the Cardinals’ scoring output was that of the first and second quarters combined. At the end of three quarters, the Panthers had a 62-12 lead.

The fourth quarter would be the only quarter where the Cardinals outscored the Panthers, albeit by a 7-5 margin.

The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season to the Carrington Cardinals, falling 54-41.

With Monday’s win, the girls sit at 13-1 overall and 5-0 in District 11.

The Panther girls fell to sixth in Monday’s North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association polling. Today they will be on the road, facing the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks – who received votes in Monday’s poll.

The Panther girls will also be on the road next Monday, taking on the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers.
