Panther boys get 23 over Dragons

The Rugby Panthers got their first region win of the 2019 baseball season on Monday.

A win that was also a landslide, as the Panthers got 23 runs and held the Dunseith Dragons to zero on a road win.

Region play continued Thursday as the Panthers traveled to Bottineau. The Panthers will host North Star on Monday, April 22 for the first home game of the season.

Softball splits first games

Rugby High School’s newly-minted softball team had a day of firsts Tuesday.

The team played its first game in an 18-1 varsity loss and an 8-7 junior high victory in a road game against Des Lacs-Burlington.

According to the team’s Facebook page, Annie Risovi got the team’s first hit, and Maisie Gault scored the team’s first run and pitched for the whole first game. Megan Schmaltz pitched for the junior high game and was the winning pitcher of that game.

The team will have their first home game on Thursday, April 25 against Harvey-Wells County.
