Panthers, Lions split doubleheader
The Rugby Panthers were able to force a doubleheader split Tuesday against Bishop Ryan at Corbett Field in Minot.
The Lions were able to force a 13-3 mercy rule win over the Panthers in game one, netting three runs in the first inning while not allowing the Panthers to score on a run. The Panthers would score in the second, third and fourth innings.
In game one, Brady Schock, Jordan Stone and Kyler Gingerich each got RBIs. Shock went 3-for-3, had a run scored, hit a double and managed to steal a base. Stone went 2-for-3 and also got a steal.
In game two however, the Panthers were able to get two runs in the first while holding the Lions to just 1. After neither team scored runs in the second, the Panthers would tack on two more runs in the third while holding the Lions to none.
The Lions would outscore the Panthers 3-2 in the fourth inning. However the Panthers would then score two runs while holding the Lions to none in the fifth.
For the Panthers Shayden Luna went 1-for-2, scored on two runs, hit a triple, netted an RBI and stole a base. Kelby Gingerich went 3-for-3, netted three RBIs and a run scored. Stone went 1-for-3, netted two RBIs and scored on two runs.
Tuesday’s meeting wasn’t the first time the two teams met.
In a prior meeting, the Lions also won 13-3 over the Panthers.
The Lions had a 9-0 lead after two innings. That lead then became an 11-2 lead after three. The Panthers got their next run in the fifth inning.
For the Panthers Gavin Schepp went 0-for-2 and netted an RBI. Schock went 0-for-2 and had a run scored.
