‘Better together’

By Staff | Jan 25, 2019

After a heartbreaking 43-44 loss to Carrington Saturday at Carrington High, the Lady Panther basketball team bounced back again.

The team boarded the bus the following Monday afternoon for another away game, this time at Nedrose High in Minot, but they had much better results.

“I just think this game, they played better together, they played well as a team this time around, and I think they just got after the ball better this time around,” Coach Jennifer Brossart said of the 61-32 Panther win.

Although Nedrose showed strong attempts-to-made shot and attempts-to-made three point ratios, the Panthers dominated in steals, blocks, rebounds, and keeping the ball.

Brooke Blessum led the Panther point totals against Nedrose with 14; Maria Blessum scored 10 points, and Anni Stier scored 9. Isabella McCabe and Karsyn Hager each scored 8 points, while Jordan Senger and Sarah Blessum scored 4 points each. Mykell Heidlebaugh and Tesha Sobolik each put 2 points on the board.

Nedrose Cardinals A’Lexis Crawford scored 12 points; Hailey Roberts and Hailee Miller scored 7 points each; Alisha Cannon scored 4 points, and Madison Hayes scored 2 points.

As the Panthers practiced for another away game, this time in Velva, Brossart said the team looked at taking a different approach to prepare.

“We’re just trying to get matches down; we’re not going to change too much about what we’re going to try to do to them, or what they’re going to do to us,” Brossart said. “We’re going to try to take a different approach this time and maybe work on Panther Basketball.”

“The less, almost, we can prepare, maybe the better in this case. Let them have fun,” she added.

“We’re a better team, and we don’t have to worry so much about what other teams are going to do to us, and what we’re going to do to them,” Brossart continued. “So, we need to take a different approach and let these girls have fun and play a little more free.”
