Three place at Rumble on the Red

Three Rugby wrestlers placed during one of the largest wrestling events in the country.

Last week in the junior varsity rounds at Rumble on the Red at the Fargodome, Ridley Odden (120#) and Brady Volk (152#) both took fourth place and Aden Jensen (126#) took sixth.

Odden lost by decision in the third place match to Mason Edstrom (Northfield). Odden won three championship round matches-two by decision over Ashton Holbrook (Scott West) and Landon Lehnertz (Dover-Eyota)-and a quarterfinal matchup before losing by major decision in the semifinals to Tyler Moe (Frazee). Odden pinned Treyton Thesing (Dover-Eyota) in the consolation semifinals to advance to the third place match.

After getting a first round bye, Jensen pinned Alana Schaffer (West Fargo) and Declan Crumley (Albany) to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals Jensen lost by pin to Carrington’s Brecken Lura. In the consolation rounds, Jensen pinned Connor Winkels (Albany) and won by decision over Bismarck’s Juan Flores before losing by pin in the semis to Oakes’ John German. In the fifth place match Jensen lost by pin to Bismarck’s James Richter.

Volk lost by decision to Adam El Damir (Wayzata) in the first round of the championship. After a first round bye in the consolation rounds, Volk pinned Reece Horsted (Jamestown), Jack Longfellow (White Bear Lake Area), Ryan Hermes (Oakes) and Landon Dillon, and won by decision over Nikita Uvarov (Bemidji), Hunter Magnusson (United Clay Becker Badgers) and Tyson Hovland (Valley City). Volk lost by pin to Abe Stockwell (Owatonna) in the third place match.

At 113 pounds, John Jundt pinned Tanner Wetli (United Clay Becker Badgers) in the second round of the championship. However a loss by decision to Owen Thorn (Owatanna) sent Jundt to the consolation rounds, where Jundt lost by sudden victory against Bismarck Century’s Jax Gums.

Also at 113, Brenden Kleespie lost by pin to Carter Mathison (St. Charles) in the championship rounds and Evan Fankhanel (Moorhead) in the consolation rounds.

A loss by pin to Logan Ryan (Woodbury) sent Austin Schneibel (126#) to the consolation rounds. There, after a first round bye, Schneibel lost by pin to Fargo Davies’ Sawyer Frie.

At 138 pounds, Wyatt Schmaltz lost by pin to Tate Hoffarth (Albany) and Adyn Eckart (Hillsboro-Central Valley).

Also at 138 but in the varsity rounds, Riley Zachmeier won by pin over Noah Halonen (Dassel-Cokato) and Leighton Rach (Perham). Zachmeier lost in the quarterfinals by decision to Drew Woodley (Northfield).
