Four wrestlers place at Linton tourney
Four Rugby High School wrestlers placed last week at the Linton Holiday Tournament.
Riley Zachmeier placed first in the 138-pound weight class, winning by decision over Kindred’s Brock Roesler. Zachmeier advanced to the semifinals after pinning Dayne Fredericks (Killdeer) and Levi Lang (Napoleon). In the semifinals, Zachmeier won by decision over Carrington’s Lucas Geiszler.
Aden Jensen placed sixth in the 132-pound weight class, losing by pin to Velva’s Braetyn Yanish. In the championship round Jensen pinned South Border’s Jon Schockey. However Jensen was sent to consolation rounds following a quarterfinal loss by decision to D’Marco Land (Mondak Thunder). In the consolation rounds, Jensen pinned Cale Ibach (Des Lacs-Burlington) and Hugo Garcia (Williams County) before losing by major decision to Hettinger-Scranton’s Cade Warbis.
Brady Volk placed sixth in the 152-pound weight class, losing the fifth place match by major decision to LaMoure’s Brett Wendel. Volk won by decision over Ty Warbis (Hettinger-Scranton) and major decision over Bransyn Yanish (Velva) to advance to the quarterfinal round. Volk was then sent to the consolation round following a quarterfinal loss by major decision to Walter Winkler (Des Lacs-Burlington). In the consolation rounds, Volk pinned Oakes’ Ryan Hermes and won by major decision over Kenmare-Bowbells’ Skyler Ford. Volk would be pinned in the consolation semifinals by Isaac Olson (Mobridge-Pollock), leading to the fifth place match.
Ridley Odden took ninth place in the 120-pound weight class, pinning South Border’s Baxter Sand. Odden won by pin against Logan Barnes (Linton-Hazelton-Moffat-Braddock) in the championship rounds, however lost by decision in the quarterfinals to Kindred’s Carter Schmitz. In the consolation rounds Odden lost by pin to Bishop Ryan’s Wesley Harvey, but won the next round by pin over Stanley’s Dawson Sessing.
At 145-pounds, Wyatt Schmaltz lost by pin to Chauncey Dittus (New Salem-Almont) in the championship rounds. In the consolation rounds, Schmaltz lost to Jaeger Lundeen (Bishop Ryan) and to Anton Carruth (Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm) by pin.
At 170 pounds, Dylan Grove lost by pin to Tucker Holzer (Mobridge-Pollock) in the first round of the championship, and then to Caleb Bonness (Des Lacs-Burlington) in the consolation rounds.
