Wrestlers place at Kenmare tourney

Seven Rugby High School wrestlers placed last week at the Kenmare Invitational.

Austin Schneibel took first place in the 132-pound weight class, winning by technical over Velva’s Lucas Siebuhr, by pin over Triton Kaercher (Velva) and Luke Lunday (Northern Lights) and by decision against Carter Miller (Des Lacs-Burlington).

Riley Zachmeier took first place in the 145-pound weight class, winning by pins over Dylan Tabor (Killdeer), Cody Rudolph (Stanley), Payton Witt (Kenmare-Bowbells), Trey Polivka (Watford City) and teammate Wyatt Schmaltz.

Schmaltz placed fifth in the same class, pinning Polivka. Schmaltz was defeated by Witt by technical and Tabor and Rudolph by pins in the preceding rounds.

Brady Volk took second place in the 160-pound weight class, losing the first place match by pin to Watford City’s Hunter Schwartzenberger. Volk won by pin over Tyler Burtch (Kenmare-Bowbells) and Nick Fieldler to advance.

In the same class, Isaac Christianson lost in the first round of the championship to Darrion Wilson (Northern Lights), and in the first consolation round to Burtch.

Dylan Grove placed second in the 170-pound weight class. Grove defeated Cash Fladeland (Watford City), Caleb Bonness (Des Lacs-Burlington) and Keaton Brunell (Williams County) by pin. Grove lost by pin to Watford City’s Beau Matson in Round 4.

Bryson Amyotte took second in the 106-pound weight class, losing by pin to Northern Lights’ Justin Hudson. Amyotte defeated both Dean Dumas (Killdeer) and Jaxon LaRocque by pin and Christian Ramos (Killdeer) by technical.

John Jundt took sixth place in the 120-pound weight class, losing the 5th place match by pin to Northern Lights’ Jakob Hudson. Jundt lost to Hudson in the quarterfinals. In the consolation rounds Jundt defeated teammate Brenden Kleespie before losing by decision to Mondak Thunder’s Austin Harbin.

Kleespie fell to Killdeer’s Isaac Jaggi in the first round of the championship. Kleespie pinned Mondak Thunder’s Ashden Christian in the first consolation round before facing Jundt in the next round.

Rolla triangular

Rugby dropped two duals the day before at a triangular in Rolla.

Rugby fell, 42-42, to Northern Lights and to Bishop Ryan, 46-17.

At 106, Amyotte lost by pin to both Lane Cooper (Bishop Ryan) and Justin Hudson.

At 120, Kleespie won an exhibition match by pin over Northern Lights’ Havlin Delong. Kleespie lost by pin to Bishop Ryan’s Gannon Ledoux and Northern Lights’ Jakob Hudson.

At 126, Jundt defeated Northern Lights’ Mike Cabunsura by pin in an exhibition match, and also defeated Luke Lunday by pin. Jundt lost by pin to Bishop Ryan’s Wesley Harvey.

Schneibel lost one match to Northern Lights’ Cade McCloud. Schneibel also got a win by forfeit in the dual against Bishop Ryan.

At 138, Joel Matehs pinned Bishop Ryan’s Hunter Cooper. Matehs got pinned by Northern Lights’ Gavin Houle.

Schmaltz lost to Caden Dauphinais (Bishop Ryan) and John Lunday (Northern Lights.

Zachmeier won by pin over Northern Lights’ Kelin Keplin and by technical over Bishop Ryan’s Jaeger Lundeen.

Volk won by pin over Darrion Wilson. Volk lost by major decision to Bishop Ryan’s Kaleb Beeter.

Grove lost by pins to Alex Charette (Northern Lights) and Cody Luck.
