9-man football roundup

The St. John Woodchucks got to an early lead in the second round of 9-man football playoffs, defeating the Richardton-Taylor-Hebron Raiders, 40-28, last week.

Peter Houle and Adam Jollie set the terms in the first quarter, each running in a score before the Raiders could respond.

The second quarter was Jollie and Houle as well, with the former scoring two different times on runs.

The Woodchucks were scoreless in the third quarter while the Raiders chipped in two scores. The first in the quarter came from a short run from Britton Paulson, with quarterback Logan Hoff connecting with Logan Kuntz on the conversion. The second came from a short run from Zach Schmalenberger.

The Woodchucks would add another score in the fourth quarter, with Jollie capping a drive from 44 yards out and running in the conversion.

With the win, the Woodchucks will travel to Ray today to take on the Ray-Powers Lake Outlaws in the quarterfinal round. The winner will advance to the semifinals and take on the winner of the matchup between the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks and the New Salem-Glen Ullin Holsteins.

The Outlaws beat the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans, 14-8, to advance.
