9-man football roundup

By Staff | Oct 19, 2018

Only two teams from Region 4 remain in the 9-man football playoffs after last week.

– By virtue of having the top seed in the region, the St. John Woodchucks got a breather in the first round. Today they host the Richardton-Taylor-Hebron Raiders out of Region 5. The Raiders shut out Region 6 No. 4-seed Divide County, 44-0, to advance.

The winner of the Woodchucks/Raiders matchup will take on the winner of the matchup between Region 6 No. 1-seed Ray-Powers Lake Outlaws and the Region 2 No. 2-seed Towner-Granville-Upham Titans.

– The Titans advanced after a 34-0 shutout over the Region 5 No. 4-seed Central McLean Cougars.

– The North Prairie Cougars had a 20-12 lead going into halftime against the Surrey Mustangs.

However the Mustangs’ two scores in the third quarter and one in the fourth paved the way for a 32-26 win over the Cougars.

The Mustangs struck first with two runs from Kolby Nelsen in the first quarter.

The ensuing quarter was all Cougars, with Xavier Mitchell getting two runs in. Score number three would find Cody Yoder connecting with Andre Elick on a 34-yard pass attempt.

The third quarter saw Cody Fuchs chew up the field for the Mustangs on two runs, one from 44 and one from 61 yards out.

The next quarter saw the return of Nelsen on the board, running it in from 39-yards out.

The Cougars would respond with Elick connecting with Frankie Juntunen on a 21-yard pass.

– The Shiloh Christian Skyhawks worked up an early 14-0 lead.

That 14-0 lead became a 52-12 deficit by halftime that the North Star Bearcats could not overcome.

The second quarter saw the Bearcats’ Jeremiah Hill score on an 80-yard kick return, and Keaton Kvilvang connect on a 50-yard pass with Gavin Miller.

The Bearcats’ last score came on a 22-yard run by Jayce Thomas.
