Volleyball takes three from Benson County

Rugby High Girls’ Varsity Volleyball maintained their momentum from a win over St. John last week as they defeated Benson County’s Lady Wildcats in three games September 6.

Benson County fought hard against the Lady Panthers, rallying to stay in each game, and leading by two points at the beginning of game 3, but Rugby High dominated overall.

Maria Blessum continued to boost her total of kills for the season, scoring 8 in the evening’s game. Brooke Blessum and Anni Stier came in with 7 and 5 kills, respectively.

Aces went to Brianna Leir, who had 3, and Maria Blessum, with 2.

Sarah Blessum and Brooke Blessum each scored 3 blocks, with Sarah Blessum totaling 21 assists.

Maria Blessum totaled 10 digs, and Anni Stier scored 8.

The Lady Wildcats filled the stats columns with kills scored by Desidy Schwanke (8), Mallorie Sabo (6), and Reganne Ritterman (3).

McKenna Tofsrud and Maddy Severson each scored 1 ace.

Kearyn Nelson scored 2 blocks, and Desidy Schwanke scored 1.

Mallorie Sabo came in with 7 digs, and Desidy Schwanke logged 6.

Camee Wangler and Zoe Lauckner each scored assists in the games, with Camee Wangler totaling 12, and Zoe Lauckner 6.

Winning ways continue at tourney

The Lady Panthers continued their winning ways at the Glenburn Invitational tournament, where they faced District 11 rivals Newburg/Westhope and four other teams.

Rugby High won all their matches, defeating Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood’s Mavericks twice. Fellow Region 6 teams Surrey and Newburg/Westhope also fell to the Lady Panthers, as did Region 8 teams Kenmare and White Shield.

Brooke and Sarah Blessum continued to add to their ace columns, with Brooke scoring 14 and Sarah scoring 12 for the day. Maria Blessum and Brianna Leier each got 11 aces, and Anni Stier scored 10. Jordan Senger tallied 2 aces for the tourney, while Karsyn Hager and Holly Vetsch each scored 1.

Maria Blessum logged an impressive 48 total kills. Anni Stier and Brooke Blessum scored 27 kills each, and Karsyn Hager’s kills totaled 16. McKenzie Harner and Jordan Senger had 1 kill each.

Brooke Blessum scored 5 blocks, while Anni Stier and McKenzie Harner each scored 1.

Sarah and Brooke Blessum each added to the assist column, with Sarah scoring 3, and Brooke scoring 1.
