9-man football roundup
Week 3 saw more inner-Region 4 matchups, along with one non-region matchup.
– After two weeks of lopsided losses, the North Prairie Cougars saw a return to form in week 3 with a 52-15 win over the Benson County Wildcats.
The Cougars held the board for the first half, with the scoreboard 38-0 at halftime.
The Wildcats would get on the board in the second half, with one score in the third quarter and one in the fourth.
However, the Cougars would get two scores on the board in the third, and close the game with a safety.
The Cougars were on the road Friday night for another region matchup against the North Star Bearcats (3-0 overall, 1-0 in Region 4).
The Wildcats (0-3 overall, 0-1 in the region) meanwhile hosted the Dunseith Dragons (0-3 overall, 0-2 in the region).
– The Bearcats notched a third win last week, this time against an opponent they played merely 10 days earlier. At Lakota the Bearcats defeated the Nelson County Chargers 60-46.
The Bearcats got on the board early with Keaton Kvilvang finding Gavin Miller on a short pass.
The Chargers would outscore the Bearcats 14-12 in the second quarter, with quarterback Jacob Leininger scoring on 1-yard runs.
Leininger would go on to score on three more runs later in the game.
Kvilvang however would prove to be a threat in the air, completing multiple double digit yardage passes for scores.
– The St. John Woodchucks (3-0 overall, 2-0 in Region 4) outpaced the Dragons, 68-6. The Woodchucks were originally slated to play the Drake-Anamoose Raiders Friday in Drake, however the latter forfeited the season due to low numbers.
– Also slated to have played the Raiders were the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans, who were slated to play them last week. The Titans traveled to Hatton Friday for a non-region game against the Hatton-Northwood Thunder. The Titans have a 2-1 record overall (with their only loss so far this season to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood), and a 2-0 record in the region.
