Blessum takes state title in pole vault

In the State Class B Track and Field State Championship meet held in Bismarck May 25 and 26, the Rugby Panthers Girls tied for fourth place with Dickinson-Trinity. Hazen had a total of 65 points to take first place. Hillsboro/Central Valley took second and Park River/Fordville-Lankin, third.
Taking the pole vault state championship was Rugby Panther’s Maria Blessum with a 11′ 0″ height to take first place.
In the long jump, Brooke Blessum was eighth place with a 16′ 1/4 inches jump to give her eighth place.
Maddie Uhlenkamp placed third in State in the shotput, with a 36′ 4 1/2″ and runner-up in the Discus with 115′ 10.” Brooke Blessum was runner-up in the triple jump with 35′ 113/4.”
In the 100-meter dash Kristina Brossart placed fifth with a time of 12.98. In the 100-meter hurdles, Maria Blessum placed fifth with a time of 16.28.
In the 4 x 200 meter relay, Rugby placed fifth in the finals. The team consisted of Maria Blessum, Anni Stier, Emily Mattern and Kristina Brossart. Their total time was 1:46.94.
In the 4 x 400, Rugby also placed fifth. The team consisted of Tristin Lunde, Emily Mattern, Maria Blessum and Anni Stier. Their time was 4:10.21.
Boys track takes 26th at state
Rugby High School’s boys track & field team found itself in a three-way tie at the State Class B Track & Field Tournament last week in Bismarck.
The team tied with Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood and Hankinson’s boys teams for 26th place out of 80 teams.
The 4×100-meter relay team (Keith Vetsch, John Butler, Kaden Jaeger and Corey Mattern-46.47) took seventh place. The 4×200-meter relay team (Vetsch, Butler, Jaeger and Cody Jundt-1:32.89) took fourth. The 4×400-meter relay team (Jundt, Mattern, Butler and Warren Walker-3:38.51) took 13th. The 4×800-meter relay team (Walker, Cole Wentz, Trace Goven and Dawson Schepp-9:10.83) took 19th place. Schepp took 19th (10:48.05) in the 3200-meter run. Jaden Hamilton took eighth in high jump with a six-foot jump. Mattern took 10th in triple jump with a 41-foot, 0.25-inch jump.
Jaeger placed 11th in the 100-meter dash. Butler placed 17th in the 200-meter dash. Jundt placed 17th in the 400-meter dash. J.D. Matehs placed 16th and Hayden Thingvold placed 18th in the 110-meter hurdles. Keith Vetsch placed 11th and Matehs placed 18th in the 300-meter hurdles.
Rugby Boys Track Coach and Athletic Director Scott Grochow was named the Subway State Coach of the Year for Boys Class B according a Twitter post from the North Dakota High School Coaches Association.
