Rugby girls take first at Mariya Tate Memorial

Rugby High School’s girls and boys track and field teams competed at the Mariya Tate Bernhardt Memorial Meet in Rugby May 1.

Rugby’s girls placed a fantastic first in the 21 city matchup, with 181.1 points. Harvey/Wells County was in strong at second place with 111 points, with Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis and Clark coming in a close 80 followed by 4th place Devils Lake with 53.5 points.

In the 100 Meter Dash, Kristina Brossart placed 1st with 13.19; Anni Stier placed 2nd in the 400 Meter with 1:02:87, and in the 100 Meter Hurdle Maria Blessum placed 1st with 17.07

Meet records were broken and set in the Long Jump by both Brooke Blessum of Rugby, and Makenna Vollmer from Harvey. Vollmer first broke the record, and then Blessum broke Vollmer’s record. Vollmer eventually placed 2nd overall. Brooke Blessum jumped 16′ 10.” inches to place first. She was followed by Sara Stier who placed 4th with 15’11”. In the Triple Jump, Brooke Blessum placed 2nd with a 33’5″ jump, and Sara Stier with 33′ 4.5 inches for a 3rd place finish.

In the High Jump, Brooke Blessum jumped 4’9″ to place second.

In the Pole Vault, Rugby placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, with Maria Blessum, 9’6″ for first place, Brooke Blessum for 2nd with 8’0 vault, Kelly Swanson with 7’6″ for 3rd, and Anna Clements for 7’0″ to finish 4th.

In the Shot Put , Maddie Uhlenkamp threw 34’9″ for 2nd place, and Whitney Gronvold threw 32’2″ for 5th place and Jacoby Glasser 31’1″for 7th place.

In the Discus, Maddie Uhlenkamp threw 109’2″ to finish in 1st place, and Maddie placed 3rd in the Javelin for Rugby. Whitney Gronvold threw 88’0″ and placed 5th.

In the Javelin throw, Maddie Uhlenkamp threw 100’8″ , and 3rd place winner was Whitney Gronvold with a 88’0″ – throw for 5th place.

In the 4 x 100 Meter Relay, the Panthers Kristina Brossart(13.33) Anni Stier(13.20) Sara Stier(13.60) Maria Blessum(14.33) score totallying 54.46 came in 2nd place .

In the 4 x 200 Meter Relay, the Panthers Kristina Brossart(29.19) Anni Stier(27.00) Tristin Lunde(29.20) Maria Blessum 28.15 for a total of 1:53.54 placing 2nd place.

In the 4 x 400 Meter Relay, Panthers Tristin Lunde(1:05.91) Kristina Brossart(1:08.64) Emily Mattern(1:08.97) Anni Stier(1:01.62) for a total of 4:25.14 scored 2nd place

In the 4 x 800 Meter Relay, Panthers Mykell Heidlebaugh(2:41.17) Karsyn Hager(2:43.23) Ellie Duchscherer(2:45.60) Tristin Lunde(2:37.86) for a total of 10:47.86 which placed 5th.

Boys Track and Field takes second

The Rugby Panthers Boys Track and Field team took home second place May 1 at the Mariya Tate Memorial track & field meet in Rugby, played on Johnson Field, with a score of 80 following Des Lacs/Burlington’s winning first place position of 120.

In the boys 100-meter dash, fourth place went to Rugby’s Kaden Jaeger with a 11.99 time and 7th place went to Keith Vetsch.

In the 200-meter dash, third place went to Kaden Jaeger.

In the 800-meter run, 12th place went to Cole Wentz, with a time of 2:19.81

In the 1600 meter, Rugby placed 7th

In the 110 meter hurdles, Hayden Thingvold placed 9th with 19.94

In the 300 Meter hurdles, 5th Place went to JD Matehs with 45.77 and 12th Place went to Hayden Thingvold with a time of 50.13

In the 4 x 100 meter Rugby placed second , 4 x 200 meters Rugby placed 3rd, and the 4 x 800 meter Rugby placed 4th. The team consisted of Keith Vetsch, Cody Jundt, Kaden Jaeger and Corey Mattern.

In the High Jump, Jaden Hamilton placed 6th overall. In the Pole Vault, Hayden Thingvold placed 4th, in the Boys Long jump, Corey Mattern placed 8th, in the Boys Triple, Corey Mattern placed first with 42.02 and Jaden Hamilton, placed 2nd with 40.08.
