Dragons blow away Panthers, 81-69
The Panthers boys gave it their all at a Friday, February 16 game away at Dunseith with the Dragons, but it wasn’t good enough this time.
The Dragon’s took the game 81-69 when it was all over. It was Senior Night, all five seniors were playing for the Dragons. Before the game, Coach Eric Boren gave a nice tribute to Leonard Bradford, who had recently passed away. Bradford was the Dragons’ number one fan for many years, attending the games and helping with all kinds of basketball tasks.
“I just wanted everyone to know how much we appreciated Leonard Bradford, and we will miss him,” coach Boren said.
During the game, the Panthers came out fast and defensive, with Jaden Hamilton scoring the first three pointer of the game for the Panthers. The first quarter ended with a 21-17 score. The Panthers were ahead at the start of the 2nd quarter, and ended it with a tie of 35-35 at halftime. It was anybody’s game at that point.
But the third quarter revealed Dunseith Dragons roaring ahead with 61-44 with seconds left in the 3rd quarter. It ended 69-52, Rugby 17 points behind. They were never to catch up.
In the 4th quarter Hamilton was short on his 3-pointer, which was grabbed away by the Dragons and taken to the winning kingdom 81-69 Dragons. This was the Dragons’ third game in a row with 80-plus points and Rugby couldn’t take it away Friday.
Rugby played next on Feb 23, at the District 11 Tournament in Bottineau where they took on the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans in Game 1. The tournament was February 23, 24 & 26 in Bottineau.
