Bottineau-Rugby wins second shootout
For the second time in the regular season, the Bottineau-Rugby Braves won by shootout.
And against a familiar opponent.
The Braves and the Mandan Braves were neck-and-neck for three periods last week on Bottineau-Rugby’s home ice.
Bottineau-Rugby struck first, with Wyatt Haakenson providing an assist to Gabe Clements on a shot on goal. Seven minutes later Mandan had its response, with Jackson Zittleman assisting Carter Berger.
Later in the second period Keatyn Skytland’s goal allowed Mandan to briefly have the lead. But then Bottineau-Rugby tied things up again with Ian Amsbaugh who leads the team in double-digit figures in both points (20) and assists (14) assisting Riley Olson in a shot on goal.
Bottineau-Rugby would then take the lead early in the third, with Haakenson providing an assist to Jace Scherr. Bottineau-Rugby would hold the lead for nearly nine minutes before Quinn Halstengard who had one assist the previous quarter would land a goal.
With no scoring in overtime, both Braves teams were forced into a shootout.
Bottineau-Rugby’s record improves to 7-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the WDA. They traveled to Minot Thursday and played Friday against Bismarck Century at the Al Wentz Arena in Rugby.
