Wrestlers compete at Rolla Tournament
Rugby High School wrestlers traveled to Rolla on Saturday, January 20th to compete in the Rolla Tournament.
In the 106 class Jayce Horman (Pembina County) won over Ridley Odden Rugby by a pin in round one. In Round 2, Odden won over Jakob Hudson (Northern Lights) by a decision. In Round 3 Odden of Rugby was over Jaxson Holter (Kenmare-Bowbells) by a technical fall.
In the 126 class Aden Jensen defeated Wry Miller and Nicholia Topolski (Kenmare-Bowbells) before falling to Preston Litton in round three.
In the 132 class Round 1 Riley Zachmeier won over Ashton Johnson (Pembina County) by a pin. In Round 2 Zachmeier won over Weston Wahus (Deslacs) by a pin. In round 3 Zachmeier won over Clade McCloud (Northern Lights) by a pin
In the 138 Round 1 John Jundt of Rugby won over Ethan Vondall (Northern Lights) by a pin. Round 2 in the 138 Kaiden Bredahl (Des Lacs-Burlington) won over Jundt by a pin, and Round 3 Tanner Urlaub (Pembina County) over Jundt by a pin.
Joey Berg pinned Sheldon Skar (Kenmare-Bowbells) in round two of the 145 class. He then faced teammate Dylan Grove and won by major decision. Berg went on to defeat Demetrius Avila (Pembina County North) by technical.
Grove also defeated Skar by pin in round one, but fell to Walter Winkler (Des Lacs-Burlington) in round 2. Grove went on to defeat Avila by major decision.
In the 152 class Brady Volk of Rugby had a sudden victory over Payton Witt (Kenmare-Bowbells) in Round 2. Round 1 was Volk Rugby over Darrion Wilson (Northern Lights) by a pin. Round 3 yet again was Volk over Nathan Ferm (Des Lacs-Burlington) by a pin. Volk would later defeat Michael Schlosser (Kenmare-Bowbells) by pin.
In the 182 class Cole Schneibel defeated both Eli Bjornstad (Pembina County North) and Alex Charette (Northern Lights) before falling to Austin Urlaub (Pembina County North) in round 3. Schneibel would win the next round by forfeit over Trevor Larson (Des Lacs-Burlington) before losing by decision to Kenmare-Bowbells’ Colter France.
D.J. Schneibel defeated Tanner Soli (Pembina County North), Jordan Robbins (Des Lacs-Burlington), Tristin Jeannotte (Northern Lights) and Skyler White (Des Lacs-Burlington) all by pin before winning by decision over Northern Lights’ Max Defender in round five.
Rugby competed in a quadrangular in Grenora two days prior. Rugby took the match, 36-28, over Kenmare-Bowbells but lost 37-22 to Des Lacs-Burlington and 45-34 to Mondak Thunder.
In the quadrangular, Zachmeier defeated D’marco Land (Mondak Thunder) by major decision and Wahus by pin. Odden defeated Carter Miller (Des Lacs-Burlington), Cade Hawkins (Mondak Thunder) and Maverick Ford (Kenmare-Bowbells) all by pin. Berg defeated Skyler Ford (Kenmare-Bowbells) by pin and Bredahl by major decision. DJ Schneibel defeated Josh Baumann (Kenmare-Bowbells), Hawkins and White all by pin. Cole Schneibel won by decision over France, however got defeated by Mondak Thunder’s Brandon Ledahl by pin and Des Lacs-Burlington’s Coy Spooner by major decision. Volk won by pin over Austin Richardson (Mondak Thunder), but lost by decision to Nathan Ferm. Grove defeated Witt, but lost by pin to Walter Winkler. Brenden Kleespie fell to Kaden Eaton (Des Lacs), Austin Harbin (Mondak Thunder) and Holter.
The team is competing today at New Salem-Almont. The next action for the team is the Regional Wrestling competition Saturday, February 3rd in Rugby.
