Fresh off a 71-31 road victory last week against the Bottineau Stars, the Rugby Panthers had another District 11 bout against the Nedrose Cardinals winning 82-31 in a home game Monday evening.

The Panthers had the lead from the get-go, with guard Anni Stier drilling a three-pointer, followed just seconds later with a bucket from center Madison Uhlenkamp. The Cardinals were not able to get on the board until the 6:49 mark, with center A’Lexis Crawford going on a 1-for-2 trip to the free throw line.

The Panthers then went on a 10-2 run, followed by a 7-2 run to solidify their lead. Guard Karsyn Hager was able to score 18 points on the quarter, contributing to a 30-7 lead at the end of the first.

The second quarter saw the Cardinals outscore the Panthers, 13-12, however the lead going into halftime would still be 42-20 in the Panthers’ favor. Forward Hailey Roberts scored seven of her nine points on the night just in the second quarter alone, including a three-pointer in the final seconds.

Missed buckets plagued the Cardinals, of which the Panthers were able to take full advantage and chip in 25 more points to their lead in the third quarter. The Cardinals were only able to get four on the board, with buckets from forwards Mikalyn Berglof and Alisha Cannon.

The fourth quarter would be a similar story, with the Panthers scoring 15-7 on the quarter.

“I thought we transitioned well,” said Panthers head coach Jen Brossart. “I thought we had a lot of nice passing and I also thought we had a lot of nice shooting. I thought shot selection was huge, I thought we were knocking down shots from the inside and the outside, so it was nice to see that in a game like this.”

The Panthers hosted the Velva Aggies Thursday evening. The Panthers will be on the road today, taking on the Lewis & Clark-Berthold Bombers at the Minot Municipal Auditorium at 4:30 p.m. On Monday the Panthers will play in a road game against the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers (4:15 p.m. start).
