Braves fall to Magi in overtime
In a span of two days, the Bottineau-Rugby Braves saw their winning streak snapped and an overtime loss on their home ice.
The Braves lost, 5-4, in overtime to the Minot High School Magicians Monday evening at the Bottineau Community Arena.
The Magi got on the board first with a goal from Kyler Stenberg, and then added another point to their lead in the second period on an unassisted goal from Jake Viall.
The Braves got on the board at the 8:42 mark with Wyatt Haakenson helping Jace Scherr hit the net.
In the third chapter, the Braves were able to get two hits on goal from Gabe Clements and Riley Olson.
The Magi would then take the lead back briefly on goals from Brett Davis and Payton Philion. But then the Braves would tie the game with just eight seconds left in regulation with a Nic Costa goal.
It would be Davis who’d score the final goal for the game and for the Magi at the 6:49 mark in overtime.
The Braves traveled to Dickinson two days prior, and their previous three-game winning streak was snapped in a 7-1 loss.
Dickinson got to a 5-0 lead in two periods. The Braves were unable to get on the board until the 15:38 mark in the second, with an unassisted goal from Nathaniel Haman. Dickinson would later drive the point home in the third with goals from Peter Pavek and Logan Karsky.
With the loss on Monday evening, the Braves’ record sits at 6-6-1 overall. The Braves are also 3-2 on the season in games that ended one goal apart.
The Braves traveled to Bismarck on Friday. The Braves will be on the road next Friday as well, taking on Mandan (game time at 5 p.m. for JV, 7:30 for varsity).
