Wrestlers compete at Shane Shatto tournament

Rugby High School wrestlers traveled to Douglas, Wyo., last week to compete at the Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament.

Riley Zachmeier took first place in the 126-lb. weight class, defeating Mikey Fischer by pin. Zachmeier had decisive victories in both the championship and quarterfinal rounds.

DJ Schneibel took first in the 285-lb. weight class, winning by decision over Jacob Wamboldt. Schneibel’s earlier matches were win-by-pins against Zach Heil, Cutter Foster and Dallas Wik.

Joey Berg took fifth, winning by decision over Jackson Hesford. After falling to Kel Tritschler in the championship rounds, Berg defeated Sawyer Haag, Hunter Weickham, Jeffery VanAntwerp and Jackson Hesford in the consolation rounds before falling to Tritschler again in the consolation semis.

Aden Jensen and Dylan Grove each got a win in the championship rounds. Jensen defeated Devon Swisher by decision. Grove pinned Jacob Wood.

In the junior varsity division Ridley Odden took first, winning by decision over Landon Trujillo. In the earlier rounds Odden defeated Ethan Kraft and Drake Fisgus by pins, and Jerry Everett by technical.

Also taking first was Cole Schneibel, who won by decision over Leif Norskog. Cole defeated Jasper Roy, Bode Draper and Zander Hottell by pins before losing by decision to Alex Rodriguez in round 3.

Brady Volk took second place, falling to Robert Flores. Volk defeated Flores by major decision in an earlier round. He then lost by decision to Walter Ratchford. In round 3 Volk won by decision over Benson Avery. Volk also defeated Cael Pugh in an earlier match.

John Jundt took eighth, falling to Hayden Mullinex.

The wrestling team is competing at the Rugby Panthers Boosters tournament, which wraps up today in Rugby. The next action for the team includes a quadrangular in Grenora and a tournament in Rolla.
