Starting into this new year of 2018, the Rugby Panthers were ready to go! The Rugby’s Panthers’ ninth win of the season was over Westhope-Newburg Friday, Jan 5 at home, 77-24. It was their second win of over 70 points but it wasn’t to be their last. Their tenth win would be over Drake.

On Monday night, January 8 at Drake High School, the Panthers played the Drake Anamoose and won 77-20, which was their third straight win with over 70 points for the District 11 girls players.

The Drake game started out with them behind in the first quarter 28-4. For the Panthers, it was all smooth sailing from there. The action continued with turnovers from the Raiders, and quick buckets by the Panthers, and Rugby girls could do no wrong. The action was crazy in the second quarter with the Panthers getting their buckets with ease, and the Raiders turning over the ball. The second quarter ended 41-6 Rugby. Starting out the 3rd quarter with a quick bucket from Anni Stier, the score quickly moved Rugby 58-9 and went on to end that third quarter with 66-17. The fourth quarter had a running clock, and the time ran out with Rugby 78 and Drake 20.

During a Rugby radio pregame interview with Coach Jen Brossart, Jen said “the girls were ready to go and prepared.” She said it all. They were.

The Panthers’ next game will be today in Devils Lake with Four Winds. On January 19, they will play the Bottineau Stars at Bottineau.
