Braves win in shootout

By Staff | Jan 16, 2018

In a split weekend last week, the Bottineau-Rugby Braves won one game in a 2-1 shootout on the road.

The Braves were able to get the lead early against Mandan with an unassisted goal from Wyatt Haakenson at the 6:27 mark in the first period.

Mandan then turned the tables in the next stanza, with a Parker Zander goal to tie and a Jackson Zittleman goal to snatch away the lead.

The third period saw Gabe Clements on an unassisted goal tie things up again for the Braves. Quinn Halstengard was able to briefly give the lead back to Mandan. But then, Riley Rybchinski assisted Landon Rosendahl in finding the net for a third Braves goal, forcing the game into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a shootout, where the Braves netted two goals to Mandan’s one.

The previous day the Braves lost, 8-3, to Jamestown marking the second regular season meeting the Blue Jays won over the Braves.

The Blue Jays worked up a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period, and then got two more goals early in the next three of them coming from Devin Hofmann. Nic Costa was able to get the Braves on the board at the 12:08 mark, and then scored the first goal of the third period.

The Braves will travel to Dickinson next Saturday, game time starting at 2 p.m. Central time.
