9-man football roundup
For Region 4 9-man football teams, the season is officially over.
Going into last week’s contest, the North Prairie Cougars were the only team in the region remaining in the postseason.
But the New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin Holsteins had other designs, winning 38-18 over the Cougars.
North Prairie was able to get on the board first, riding the momentum of their defense recovering a Holstein fumble. Quarterback Austin Soukup capped the drive on a one yard keeper.
The Holsteins tied the game on a 34-yard touchdown right after a fourth down conversion. They would later have a 22-6 advantage at the end of the first half.
In the second half, the Cougars only slightly trimmed the Holsteins’ advantage, with another momentum boost coming from a Gabe Leonard interception in the red zone. Grant Munro would later run it in from two yards out, putting the Cougars at only down by 10.
The Cougars would get another late touchdown with Soukup finding Leonard on a 36-yard pass attempt.
But by that point, the Holsteins already had two scores-one of them coming from an interception return.
The Cougars ended the season with an 8-1 record.
