Panther football season ends in loss

By Staff | Oct 20, 2017

The Rugby Panthers’ football season ended in a 30-0 loss last week to the Harvey-Wells County Hornets.

The Hornets only needed two things, both of which occurred in the second and third quarters: quarterback Jarett Anderson to find classmate and wideout Hunter Ripplinger, and senior runner Ridge Walker getting touches. Walker was the first to put points on the board on a 7-yard run, and Anderson would later end the game on a connection with him.

The Hornets also scored on a safety in the third quarter.

With the 30-0 loss, the Panthers end the season on 1-7 record, with their only win against the Central Dakota Titans on Sept. 8.

Region at a glance

Playoffs begin today for Class A 11-man teams, and no-one gets a bye.

– The No. 3-ranked Langdon Area Cardinals host the Kindred Vikings (who are out of Region 1) at 2 p.m. The winner of that game will next week take on the winner of the game between the Hornets and the Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm Thunder.

– The Carrington Cardinals host the Oak Grove Grovers out of Fargo at 3 p.m. The winner of that contest will take on either the Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn Sioux or the No. 1-ranked Hillsboro-Central Valley Burros next week.
