9-man football roundup
– The North Prairie Cougars are undefeated no longer.
After both teams were scoreless in the first act, Thompson Tommies quarterback Cadyn Schwabe threw the first of five touchdowns on the evening to wideout Marcus Hughes at the 6:38 mark. With just seconds left on the clock, Schwabe threw to Hughes again.
The Cougars were able to rebut the second score with one of their own. Austin Soukup found Grant Munro 10 yards deep and was able to connect with him for a score.
Another Schwabe-Hughes connection closed out the first half with the Tommies in the lead 20-8. A Schwabe-Hughes connection would end the game with a 40-26 loss for the Cougars.
The Cougars hosted the Larimore Polar Bears last night in Rolla.
– The Benson County Wildcats got on the scoreboard first.
But against the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans, it isn’t how a game starts, but how it ends.
Will Rice found Carter Tandeski for a 13-yard scoring pass, allowing the Wildcats to score first. The Titans responded with a short burst into the end zone from Shayden Luna.
Rice fired back with a keeper of his own.
But Luna proved to be dangerous on the ground, returning the ensuing kick for 80 yards and a score, and closing out the first half on an 8-yard run. Luna would also have a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter, helping the Titans to a 42-26 win.
The Wildcats hosted the St. John Woodchucks last night, and the Titans hosted the North Star Bearcats.
– The Woodchucks survived a close bout with the Bearcats, winning 48-46.
– The Dunseith Dragons lost, 40-20, to North Border-Wahalla last week. The Dragons were slated to take on the Drake-Anamoose Raiders yesterday.
