REGION FOOTBALL: Hornets, Panthers fall in week two

By Staff | Sep 8, 2017

For some teams in Region 2 Class A 11-man football, week two wasn’t a good week.

For the second week in a row the Rugby Panthers were shut out at home, losing 58-0 to the Langdon Area-Munich-Edmore Cardinals.

Senior quarterback Jacob Delvo drew first blood by first finding classmate and wideout Anfernee Economy for a score, and then classmate and running back Connor Tetrault for the conversion. The other senior running back Chase Peebles was up next.

The second quarter wasn’t any better, as Peebles was able to run it in again from 18 yards out. Delvo then had two long connections for scores; a 72-yard pass to Simon Romfo on one and a 58-yard pass to Economy on the other. Delvo also had a short keeper.

In the third quarter Peebles took it to the house on a 72-yard run; and Delvo had a 36-yard keeper of his own.

The fourth quarter ended with no score for either team.

The Panthers traveled to Cooperstown Friday to take on the Central Dakota Titans, and will host the Park River Area Aggies on Sept. 15.

– Senior quarterback Trent Marquart proved to be a difference maker for the Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn Sioux in an 18-12 overtime win over the Aggies. While both teams went scoreless, the Aggies were first to act in the third quarter with Wyatt Jelinek connecting with Bryce Wood on a short pass.

Marquart tied things up, connecting with classmate and wideout Logan Lamoreux on a 61-yard pass. The Aggies were able to snatch the lead back on 69-yard quarterback keeper. Marquart then had short keepers of his own; one to tie the game 12-12, and the other to win.

The Sioux traveled to Carrington to take on the Cardinals, and next week will host the Langdon Area Cardinals.

– The Carrington Cardinals trounced the Harvey-Wells County Hornets, 34-8. The Hornets went to Langdon Area’s home turf last night, and next week will host the Titans.

– The Bottineau Braves defeated the Titans, 36-12. The Braves went to Park River Friday night, and next week will host the Carrington Cardinals.
