9-man football roundup

By Staff | Sep 8, 2017

Week three was a great week for the North Prairie Cougars.

It wasn’t so much for the Benson County Wildcats.

The Cougars traveled to Leeds last week and walked away with a 52-24 victory over the Wildcats.

First quarter scoring was mostly North Prairie, as they managed 30 points to Benson County’s 8. Twelve of the Cougars 30 came from senior runner Gabe Leonard, who capped one possession off with a 10-yard run and another with a 17-yard run.

Freshman running back Xavier Mitchell was next up, taking it to the house on a 65-yard run.

The Wildcats’ only score of the quarter came when Will Rice found Keaton Nelson for a 60-yard pass.

The second quarter was all North Prairie, which included a 30-yard interception return for a score.

Rice was able to get two more scores on the board in the second half; the first on a 10-yard keeper in the third and the second a 20-yard keeper in the fourth.

The Wildcats traveled to Dunseith on Friday, and are scheduled to travel to Drake next week to take on the Drake-Anamoose Raiders.

The Cougars hosted the North Star Bearcats Friday in Rolla, and next week host the Towner-Granville-Upham Titans in Rolette.

– The Bearcats lost to Nelson County, 48-12.

– The Raiders were forced to forfeit for the second game in a row, this time to the Titans. The Raiders were scheduled to travel to St. John Friday to take on the Woodchucks.

– The Woodchucks managed to dam up any attempts by the Dunseith Dragons at finding the end zone, winning 50-0.

The Woodchucks travel to Cavalier next week, while the Dragons travel to Cando to take on the Bearcats.
