9-man football roundup

By Staff | Sep 1, 2017

The Towner-Granville-Upham Titans declawed the North Star Bearcats, 22-0, on Tuesday.

Shayden Luna put up the first 12 points of the game in two quarters, the first on a short run and the second on a 52-yard pass from Garrett Bailey.

After a scoreless third quarter, Cody Frounfelter would be the one to take it home in the fourth on a 7-yard scamper.

Week two

Week two in Region 4 9-man football saw a couple stunning upsets, and a forfeit.

The Drake-Anamoose Raiders were forced to forfeit their game against the Bearcats last week due to a combination of injuries and low numbers. The Raiders have 14 on their roster (three seniors and 11 underclassmen), but played their first game with just 10 players available. The decision to forfeit was made two days prior.

On the schedule for the Raiders was a game in Towner last Friday against the Titans, and another road game next week against the St. John Woodchucks.

Meanwhile the Benson County Wildcats found themselves on the wrong side of a 50-8 loss to the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets out of Region 2. The Wildcats hosted the North Prairie Cougars in Leeds last night, and will travel to Dunseith next week to take on the Dragons.

The Dragons found themselves on the wrong side of a loss as well, losing 46-14 to the Titans. The Dragons hosted the Woodchucks Thursday, and will stay home next week.

The Woodchucks and the Cougars had a contest that wasn’t as lopsided, but the Cougars walked away with a 32-20 victory. The Cougars will host the Bearcats next week.
