Track teams get more state qualifiers
Both the Rugby High School boys and girls track teams saw state qualifiers at the CNDC Outdoor meet Tuesday in Rugby, and the Peace Garden Conference meet last week in St. John.
In Rugby the girls had state qualifiers in the 100-meter dash (Kristina Brossart – 12.78); 4×100-meter relay (52.34); long jump (Brooke Blessum, 16 feet, 5.5 inches); triple jump (Sara Stier – 34 feet, 4.75 inches); and pole vault (Maria Blessum – 10 feet, 6 inches, meet record). The girls also saw non-state-qualifying first place finishes in high jump (Brooke Blessum – 4 feet, 9 inches) and discus (Madison Uhlenkamp – 109 feet, 6 inches).
Meanwhile the boys had state qualifiers in the 100 dash (Kaden Jaeger – 11.42; Dustin Herold – 11.43); and the 800-meter run (Jacob Blessum – 2:03.22). The boys also saw first place finishes in the 4×200-meter relay; pole vault (Kaden Jaeger – 10 feet, 6 inches); triple jump (Shayden Luna – 39 feet, 10.5 inches); and the 200-meter dash (Cade Heilman – 24.09).
In St. John both the boys and girls saw state qualifiers in both divisions of the 100 dash. Brossart qualified for the girls with a record-setting time of 12.47. Dustin Herold qualified with a time of 11.37.
The girls saw first place finishes in the 200 dash (Brossart – 26.97); 400-meter dash (Anni Stier – 1:02.99); 800 run (Tristin Lunde – 2:35.34); 300-meter hurdles (Stier – 49.87); 4×100 relay; pole vault (Brooke Blessum – 8 feet); and discus (Uhlenkamp – 112 feet, 3 inches).
The boys saw a second qualifier in Cade Heilman for the 200 dash on the meet in St. John.
The teams competed in Rugby on Thursday and are competing in Wells County today. The next action before regionals is a meet in Velva on Monday (May 15, 3:30 p.m.)
The region track meet will take place Friday, May 19 in Rugby.
