Track teams compete at Southern McLean Invitational Meet
Rugby High School’s girls track team saw a few state qualifiers last week at the Southern McLean Invitational meet in Washburn.
Qualifiers included Madison Uhlenkamp, Maria Blessum and Kristina Brossart.
Brossart qualified after taking second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.56 seconds. She was also on the first place 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams.
Blessum, who was also on the 4×100 relay team, qualified after taking first in pole vault with a height of 9 feet, 6 inches.
Uhlenkamp qualified twice, taking two first place finishes in shot put (35 feet, 10 inches) and discus (121 feet, 1 inch).
In addition to the 4×100 and 4×400 relays, the girls also saw first place finishes in the 1600-meter run (Tristin Lunde, 5:56.95) and triple jump (Sara Stier, 33’8″).
Meanwhile, the boys also saw first place finishers: the 4×400 team (Keith Vetsch, Kade Leier, Cade Heilman, Jacob Blessum-3:45.26) and the 800-meter run (Jacob Blessum, 2:09.44).
The team also saw second place finishes in the 200-meter dash (Heilman, 23.33), and the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays.
The teams were slated to compete Tuesday at a meet in Velva, however that meet was canceled.
The teams are scheduled to compete today at noon and Tuesday (May 2 3:30 p.m.) on their home turf.
