By Staff | Feb 24, 2017

Losses ended the Bottineau-Rugby Braves’ hockey season last week at the West Regional tournament in Bismarck.

Against Mandan, the Braves were scoreless until 15:31 on the clock in the third period, with Jace Scherr finding the net on a Ty Spence assist. Mandan had previously scored two goals in the preceding period and three goals prior to the 15:31 mark for a 5-1 victory

The Braves were sent to the loser-out round following an 8-3 loss to Minot the previous day.

Minot assaulted the net in the first period, hitting three goals.

The Braves would then net two goals within seconds of each other in the second period, the first at the 4:01 mark with Gabe Clements and Wyatt Haakenson assisting Scherr. Nic Costa would then score, with Shawn Schaan’s assistance, at the 4:42 mark. Minot would go on to net two more goals before the end of the period.

Minot continued its assault on the net, with the Braves only getting one goal in at the 16:11 mark from Haakenson.

The Braves’ season ends with a 3-17 overall record, and a 3-9 record in the Western Dakota Association.
